Professional Development

Professional Development:

Amala Foundation’s Professional Development series recognizes the immense dedication and hard work that teachers and staff put into supporting their students and school communities. Educators are constantly fulfilling the needs of their students and families, often going above and beyond to ensure academic success, emotional well-being, and a positive school environment.

However, this relentless focus on others means that school staff rarely have the opportunity to turn that same level of care and attention inward. Often too busy nurturing the growth and resilience of their students, they neglect their own well-being, leading to burnout, fatigue, and emotional exhaustion. Amala’s professional development series is specifically designed to give educators the time and space to reconnect with themselves, replenish their energy, and build stronger connections with their colleagues.

Popular sessions include:

Replenishing Restorative Circle: This session addresses the concern of diminishing camaraderie among teachers. It provides a dedicated space for staff to come together, build community, and find common ground, encouraging inward reflection to strengthen bonds within the school community. Teachers often focus on fulfilling the needs of their students and families, leaving little time to nurture themselves, and this session helps restore that balance.

Relax and Rejuvenate: Designed for staff feeling stressed or overwhelmed, this session offers an opportunity to relax and recharge through self-care, mindfulness, and creative art activities.  educators can explore how these practices benefit their mental health and discover strategies for managing stress throughout the school year.

Addressing Burnout with Mindfulness: When staff morale is low and burnout is high, this session provides a safe space for staff to discuss their struggles and learn mindfulness techniques and coping strategies. These tools help staff regain control and find the resilience to navigate the rest of the school year.

Balancing Your Life and the Lives of Others: A workshop focused on self-care that also incorporates psychoeducational information, this session helps educators manage the demands of both their personal and professional lives. Participants will learn to balance their responsibilities while maintaining their mental and emotional well-being.
